Achnagairn Castle

Your Exclusive Highland Home
Nestled just outside Inverness, Achnagairn Castle is a breathtaking historic estate tucked into the quiet beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Surrounded by 30 acres of landscaped gardens, mossy woodlands, and a meandering river trail, it feels worlds away, yet it’s surprisingly accessible.
The castle rests in the tranquil hamlet of Kirkhill, a short 10-minute drive from the heart of Inverness. Here, you’ll find the perfect balance of seclusion and connection: cozy cafés, artisan shops, and the legendary River Ness are just down the road, while rolling hills and heather-covered trails stretch beyond the horizon.
With roots dating back over 400 years, the castle's current neo-Victorian structure was completed around 1812, and lovingly restored in 2008 to welcome guests for exclusive-use stays. You won’t be renting a room in a hotel, you’ll be renting the entire castle, and for the duration of Glenfey, it’s yours and yours alone.
Exclusive Use & The Essence of Staying
This is not a full-service hotel, and that’s very much by design. You’re encouraged to settle in as you would in a private home, whether that means reading in the drawing room, helping yourself to tea in the shared kitchen, or stargazing from the back garden. Housekeeping is discrete; expect privacy instead of constant staff presence. Bedding and towels will be refreshed once mid-stay.
Each Room Tells a Story
No two rooms are the same. Each bedroom is distinct in character, layout, and bed configuration—ranging from quaint singles tucked under eaves to grand four-poster suites. Some rooms have ensuite bathrooms, others have private or adjacent bathrooms just outside the door.
Pricing is based only on whether you book a shared or single room, not on bed type or size.
Shared rooms simply mean you’ll have a roommate and two separate beds, which might be two twins, a queen and a twin, or another combination.
Shared Spaces & Features
Throughout your stay, you’ll have access to the castle’s rich array of shared spaces:
A wood-paneled drawing room for reading or workshops
A vaulted ballroom for dining, and gatherings
A cozy cinema room perfect for lounging with friends and favorite films
A guest kitchen, always stocked with light snacks, tea, coffee, and drinks
Outside, explore the castle’s gardens and lawns, follow woodland paths, or simply enjoy a moment of stillness along the riverbank trail.
